When adding a charging location to the PlugShare map, you have the option to add both Public Charging Locations and a Home Charger location. While it's not required to add your Home Charger to use PlugShare, our community provides thousands of shared charging locations around the world to help fill the gaps in the public charging infrastructure.
If you're interested in adding your Home Charger to the PlugShare map, you will be required to provide your location address, station charger details, and your display name. Select your platform below for specific instructions to get started:

Remember, sharing electricity is cheap! Charging a car on a standard outlet costs about 15-30 cents (USD) an hour depending on your country or region. If you choose to add your Home Charger, you can:
- Control the times and terms of your location availability (even sharing by appointment only)
- Control what personal information is displayed in the PlugShare app
- Receive messages to/from PlugShare users on whether they can use your charger at a given time
- Opt out at any time

About receiving payment for sharing a Home Charger: At this time, it is free for PlugShare community members to use the Home Chargers of other community members. While we have seen feedback from users about the ability to receive payment for the use of their Home Charger, we do not have plans to add this feature. However, you can state terms of payment for using your station in the location description. You should be as specific as possible so that any user who wants to charge is aware of the amount, and you both can work out details of this through messaging before someone visits your home location. |
Add Home Charger with Android
- From the landing page, select "Me" on the bottom of the screen
- Within the "Me" page, select "Add a Private Home Lolcation"
- Enter your home address or adjust the pin if needed and tap "Next"
- Add the requested details, including:
- Description: Small details or introduction of your location
- Address: Home address of your location
- Hours: Type in the hours you are available or open 24/7
- Stations: Add the plug type(s) your location offers (required)
- When the above details are applied, tap "Submit" and publish your home charging station to other PlugShare users!
Add Home Charger with iOS (Apple)
- From the landing page, select "Me" on the bottom of the screen
- Within the "Me" page, select "Add a Home Charger" with the section "Your Stuff"
- Enter your address or adjust the address pin as needed and tap "Next"
- Add the requested details, including:
- Description: Small details or introduction of your location
- Address: Home address of your station
- Stations: Add the plug type(s) your station offers (required)
- Hours: Confirm the hours you are available or if you're open 24/7
- Amenities: Additional perks your location offers users (wifi, restrooms, etc.)
- When the settings look good, tap "Save" at the top right to publish your home charging station to other PlugShare users!
Add Home Charger on the web (plugshare.com)
- Click the three lines (hamburger menu) on the top left to open the main menu
- Select "Add Station" to open the station options, then click "Share Home Charger"
- Enter your address or adjust the address pin as needed in the "Add Location" pop up
- Scroll down to provide your station details, including:
- Address: Home address of your station
- Description: Small details or introduction of your location
- Stations: Add the plug type(s) your station is offering (required)
- Hours: Confirm the hours you are available or if you're open 24/7
- Click "Submit" to save your station information and publish it to other PlugShare users!
